Though the Korean Cinema entails the North and South Korean films, it can be noted that the South Korean films are the ones known in the international scene. The North Korean films however dwell in the communist and revolutionary themes.

           It is said that it was only in the 1990s when the South Korean films began to get some attention from the international movie-making industries. In 1999, the film Shiri had sold about 2 million tickets in Seoul alone. And because of this film, many Korean fims film makers wee inspired to continue on making good movies.
           It was in 2000 when the film JSA or Joint Security Area was shown worldwide and remarkably gathered good response from the viewers. Another film made by the Koreans that surpassed the famous movies The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter was the film Sassy Girl. Other successful films made by the Koreans include My Wife is a Gangster, II Mare, Oldboy and Janghwa Hongryeon.
