The harbor amazingly lies in the very crater of an extinct volcano is now forming a peninsula which is joined to the mainland by an obvious low isthmus. The city has about 590,000 inhabitants. Aden encloses the eastern side of a natural harbor which makes up the modern port today. The city was the capital of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen and it gives its name to the beautiful Gulf of Aden.
The oil refinery dominates Little Aden that is made for British Petroleum. It was famous to seafarers for its tanker port with a very welcoming and warm seaman’s mission near to the BP Aden tugs’ jetties.
