The city was founded in the tenth century by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan. Ajmer is a city made up of wide streets and beautiful houses. It is also an important railway junction and a trade center which has cotton mills and railroad shops. It primarily manufactures wool textiles, hosiery, shoes, soap, and pharmaceuticals. It is also a home to Mayo College which is a boarding school that is funded by the British Raj in 1870.
There are also beautiful and magnificent places that the city boasts for. Some of these places are Pushkar, Dargah, Taragarh which is the port of the city, Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra that is a Jain temple, Magazine- Ajmer’s museum, and lots of historical and wonderful landmarks. Ajmer has a total population of 485,197 as of 2001 where the males made up 52% of the population and females 48%.
