Our first stop was the avenue of the stars in Hong Kong.  It is just a few block away from our hotel.  The avenue of the stars is HongKong’s version of Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.  You can see the handprints of famous stars like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and the statue of Bruce Lee.

At around 8:00pm, there is a lights and sound show.   Laser lights and high powered spotlights on top of different buildings dance in a highly orchestrated show.   The best vantage point to see this lights show is of course along the avenue of stars.

While waiting, we first went to starbucks so we can sit down while waiting.  I just got my first DSLR a few weeks ago (Nikon D40) and I can’t wait to fire off some shots.

Now off to the avenue of stars.   I did some test shots to see which one is better.  Without flash or with flash.

Obviously the one without the flash looks much better.    Your camera works by getting the reflected light.  You can’t expect the light from your flash to iluminate the buildings at the other side of the harbour.

So now that I know which setting is best, it is now time to wait for the lights and sounds show from the avenue of stars.  One very important tip should you want to visit Avenue of Stars in HongKong…bring a tripod!

Unfortunately I did not have a tripod with me so a lot of my shots look like this.

Since I didn’t have a tripod, I just have to make my hands as steady as possible, and make lots and lots of shots.  Hopefully, a few percentage of the shots will be good enough.

It would be nice if you have a zoom lens with F2.8  and a tripod with you.
