Bandar Seri Begawan

Built in the year 1958, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque shows a giant golden dome and also a luxurious inferior of Italian marble walls. The mosque also has underground tunnels which are the ones used by the sultan on his private journey through the town. Bandar Seri Begawan incorporates a nearby water village which is called Kampung Ayer that has houses on stilts and it also stretches out into the sea.

The city has been named after Sir Omar Ali Safuddin’s late father. The city’s original name was Bandar Brunei where Bandar is derived from Persia which means port or haven. Among the prominent schools in Bandar Seri Begawan are the St. Andrew’s School, International School Brunei, and Jerudong International School.
