Kimono literally means ‘something worn’ and it is the national costume of the rich country, Japan. It is a full-length traditional article of clothing that is being worn by men, women and also children.
Most kimonos are T-shaped, straight-lined robes that reaches to the ankle, it also collars and full-length sleeves. The sleeves of the kimonos are very wide at the wrist part which is about half meter wide. In the Japanese tradition, the kimonos are worn by unmarried women with very long sleeves which almost reach the floor. The garment is wrapped around the body where the left side is always over the right side and it is secured with a wide belt which is tied at the back.
Kimono is worn with traditional footwear and also split-toe socks. Under the kimono, the Japanese wear a nagajuban which is also a kimono but is shorter than the outer kimono and it is worn as underwear. Hadajuban is a thin garment usually worn just under the nagajuban.
