A landlocked province of the Philippines, Bukidnon is situated in the Northern Mindanao region and its capital is Malaybalay City. It is regarded as the food basket of Mindanao because it has plantations which produce pineapples, rice, maize, sugar, coffee, rubber, tomato, flowers, cassava, and other vegetables and fruits.
It has an agricultural economy and it also serves as a major producer of chickens, hogs and cattle. Bukidnon is the second largest producer of corn in the Philippines and it is also the principal trader of rice, corn, sugar, potato, and tomato. People in Bukidnon also make use of their rattan, bamboo and wood which are used in making handicrafts.
Bukidnon was acknowledged as a regular province on March 10, 1917 by the virtue of the creation of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu. People from Bukidnon have different degrees of acculturation and most of the first-degree Bukidnon have the most traditional lifestyle.
