Buri Ram: The City of Happiness

Once part of a great Khmer Empire, Buri Ram is among the north-eastern provinces of Thailand and its name means City of Happiness.Buri Ram

It is situated at the southern end of the Khorat Plateau which has extinct volcanoes surrounding the province. Buri Ram became a settlement from the Khmer Empire and there are still many ruins during that time which are still found in the town. The Phanom Rung historical park protects ruins on an extinct volcano. About 42% of Buri Ram’s population speaks Khmer.

Buri Ram’s provincial flower is the Yellow Cotton Tree and their provincial tree is the Pink Shower. The town is subdivided into 21 districts and two minor districts. These districts are subdivided into 189 communes and 2,212 villages. Its neighboring provinces are Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham and Surin.
