Banaue Rice TerracesWelcome to the 20-year old terraces that were carved in the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by the ancestors of the creative Batad indigenous people.

The terraces were built with very minimal equipment and are done by hand. The rice terraces are fed by an ancient irrigation system coming from the rainforests just above the terraces. The beautiful creations of the Batad ancestors are found in Apayao, Benguet, Mountain Province, and Ifugao. The farm system is considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Until today, many locals still tend to the rice and vegetables found and planted in the terraces. It is named as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” The rice terraces simply show the engineering skill and ingenuity of the Ifugaos. Visitors are warmly welcomed by the locals and many of these visitors often find the place remarkable and a nice place to stroll on. The locals are very friendly and nice.
