Noted as one of the most populous cities in Southern Punjab, Dera Ghazi Khan is the largest district in Punjab, Pakistan.
Dera Ghazi Khan was founded in the 15th century and it was named after Ghazi Khan. The industries in the city are the flour mills, cotton, chemical, textile, rice, sugar and ghee mills and they all form the backbone of the country’s economy. Dera Ghazi Khan Cement Company and the Al-Ghazi Tractor Company are the two famous employers in the city. The country’s uranium mining and extraction industry are located in Dera Ghazi Khan.
The city has a rich agricultural land with bountiful cotton, wheat, sugar, cane, rice and tobacco which aids the people in their needs. The city is currently connected by railroad with Multan, Lahore, Karachi and Quetta. The British had built the railway just before the partition of India.
