Diriyah is situated outside of Riyadh in Ar Riyad Province and it is the traditional home of the House of Saud.

Diriyah

The city served as the capital for the early Saudi states. Just before the Egyptians attack the city in 1818, Diriyah was the capital of the First Saudi State which prevalently dominated the whole area of Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, when Riyadh was named the capital of the Second Saudi State, Diriyah had eventually lost its influence in the area.

Among the remarkable and memorable places found in the city are the Salwa Palace which was the first home of the Al Saud Amirs and Imam in the First Saudi State, the Saad bin Saud Palace which is among the largest palaces on the site and is well-known for its courtyard used as a stable. Diriyah also has the Guest House and At Turaif Bath House which are traditional buildings in the city and there is also the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Mosque.
