Dating back to the dawn of the Chinese civilization, the Chinese music was well developed since the Zhou Dynasty. The music of the Chinese people still continues to have a rich traditional heritage.
Ling Lun was the legendary founder of the Chinese music and he used bamboo pipes as tuned to the sounds of the birds. The traditional Chinese music is usually played on solo instruments and in small ensembles of plucked and bowed stringed instruments, flutes and different kinds of cymbals, gongs and drums. The musical instruments in the country are divided into different categories which are based on the material of their composition and these are the skin, gourd, bamboo, wood, silk, earth/clay, metal and stone.
The traditional Chinese orchestra is made up of bowed strings, woodwinds, plucked strings and percussion. The Chinese vocal music is traditionally known to have a thin, non-resonant voice or in falsetto. The vocal music also comes in solo or choral.
