A shiitake is a kind of edible mushroom which is native to East Asia. This mushroom is native to China and has been grown in Japan and China since the prehistoric times. It was in the Ming Dynasty when the shiitake was said to be a remedy for upper respiratory diseases, poor blood circulation, liver trouble and exhaustion or weakness.
The shiitake is often served in miso soup and is used as the basis for a vegetarian dashi and it is also used as an ingredient in numerous steamed and simmered dishes. This mushroom is often dried and sold in a preserved food package. Shiitake are now famous in many other countries. Russia for one produces and consumes big amount of the mushroom.
When it comes to healing some illnesses, the shiitake extracts can give immunological benefits. It has anti-viral properties that can treat severe allergies and arthritis. There us also a flavor compound of the shiitake which is called lenthionine which can inhibit platelet aggregation and this can treat thrombosis.
