A city in the Rajasthan state of western India, Alwar is the administrative headquarters of Alwar District.
It has a total population of 260,245 according to 2001 census. Alwar has many wonderful, interesting and historical monuments. It also has a splendid lake and a picturesque valley. A sanctuary that is a Project Tiger reserve is called the Sariska National Sanctuary is situated in the Aravalli hills. It boasts many other species such as rare birds and plants.
Among the other places to see in Alwar are the Sariska Tiger Resort, Haldia Bhawan, Silliserh Lake, Jaisamand Lake, City Palace, Ada Pada, Saagar, and Andheri. It was formerly known as Ulwar due to its position in chronological order then a king renamed it to Alwar to be able to bring it up at the top in chronological order. A day or two in Alwar would be as fulfilling as one would experience in other regions of India.
