It was in the year 1748 when Bahawalpur was founded by Nawab Muhammad Bahawal Khan Abbasi I. The State of Bahawalpur is said to be listed among the largest states of British India and it had maintained its sovereignty until the year 1955.

There are numerous sites where tourists can visit in Bahawalpur. In fact, one of the few zoos in the country is found in the city which serves as a home to Asiatic lions, Bengal tigers, hyenas, leopards, peacocks and other variety of numerous animals. Other sites in Bahawalpur include Noor Mahal, Farid Gate, Naitonal WildLife Park, Lal Sohamra, Channen Peer Tomb Yazman and a lot more. The city is also famous for its cotton, silk, embroidery, carpets and delicate pottery.
