Galle: A Fortified City

Situated on the southwestern tip of Sri Lanka, Galle is a fortified city built by the Europeans in south and Southeast Asia.Galle

It was in the 18th century when the city has reached the height of its development before the British arrived who had developed the harbor at Colombo. In the city, one will find the Galle fort which is hailed as a world heritage site and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia that was built by European invaders. It serves as the main town in the most southerly part of the island and it has a total population of about 100,000.

There are also schools and universities in the city. The Faculty of Engineering is situated at Hapugala which is about five kilometer from the city. There is also the Faculty of Medicine which is found at Karapitiya which is located near the Karapitiya Hospital. There are also high schools and colleges in the city which are known to have good standards of education.
