The Cambodian culture is said to have a rich and varied history that dates back many centuries and was heavily influenced by India. The major source of the history of the country was inspired from religion. In different times, the culture of Cambodia was absorbed from Javanese, Chinese, Lao and Thai cultures.
About 90% of the Cambodians are of Khmer heritage and a greater proportion of the population speaks Khmer which is the official language of Cambodia. French, Chinese, Vietnamese and English are also spoken in the country. The majority of the population in Cambodia (95%) has Theravada Buddhist as a religion and the remaining population follows Islam and atheism.
Some of the customary Cambodian teachings are: that if a person does not wake up before sunrise, he is sluggish; you have to let know your parents or elders where you will go and the time you are to come back home; the doors must be closed gently, if not, you have a bad temper; you must sit with your legs straight down and never crossed (crossing of legs shows that a person is impolite) and always allow other people talk more than you.
