It is surrounded by the South China Sea to the north and northwest part, by the Sulu Sea to its northeast, Celebes Sea and Makassar Strait to the east and to the south, by the Java Sea and Karimate Strait. Its highest point is the Mount Kinabalu which made the island the third largest island. The largest river system in the island is the Kapuas River and is the longest river in Indonesia. There is also the Rajang Rvier which is said to be the longest river in Malaysia. Barito River and the Mahakam Rivers are also the natures’ bounty in the island.

Borneo is visited mostly by tourists for it is rich in biodiversity where you can see 15,000 species of flowering plants, 3,000 species of trees, 221 species of terrestrial mammals and about 420 species of resident birds in the island.
