A Middle Eastern country located in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula, United Arab Emirates is composed of seven emirates.
It was before 1971 when UAE was called Trucial States or Trucial oman which refers to a 19th century truce between Britain and numerous Arab Sheiks. It was also called as Pirate Coast that refers to the area’s emirates in the 18th century. The country is known to be rich in oil even if it lacks other natural resources. It has relatively high Human Development Index or HDI for the Asian continent.
UAE is composed of Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaiman, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. It is among the countries that have the most diverse populations in the Middle East. Its most populated city is Dubai which has about 1.2 million people. 85% of its population is Muslim. The country has strong bonds with the other Arab and Islamic world. UAE’s government is committed in preserving traditional forms of culture in the country.
