Subdivided into 41 municipalities and two cities, Leyte is a province of the Philippines which is situated in the Eastern Visayas region. It was in 1543 when Ruy Lopez de Villalobos came into the island and he called it Las Islas Felipinas.

On October 20, 1944, the Battle of Leyte took place and a successful Allied invasion of the island became the critical element to the ultimate American victory in the country. The province’s economy depends on agriculture and Rice is commonly farmed in the lower flatter areas. They also have fishing as a major source of income.

Warays are the ones who are tied to Leyte and Samar while in the west and southern part of the province are inhabited by the Cebuanos. It was on March 10, 1917 when Leyte was founded and it is situated west of Samar province, north of Southern Leyte and south of Biliran.
