Welcome to Gyeongsang, one of the eight provinces of Korea in the Joseon Dynasty. It is situated in the southeast of the country and its provincial capital was Daegu.
The province is a stronghold of the conservative Grand National Party in the Korean politics. It is bounded on the west by Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces, on the north by the Gangwon Province, south by the Korea Strait and east by the Sea of Japan. It is ringed by the Taebaek and Sobaek mountains and is said to be drained by the Nakdong River.
The province is often referred to by the regional and former provincial name of Yeongnam. It is currently divided into Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do. It was in the year 1986 when Andong, Daegu and northern Dongae Districts were merged to form North Gyeongsang province. The north and south Gyeingsang are said to be part of South Korea today.
