LachinLachin is a small town in Azerbaijan which currently has a total population of 2,200 for the town and 9,800 for the rayon. It is said that there are numerous Armenian refugees from the country.

Lachin was first inhabited by nomadic Kurdish tribes during the 18th century and the population became the majority in the town. It was in July 7, 1923 when the town became the capital of Kurdistan Uyezd which is often called as Red Kurdistan. Lachin is scenically built on a side of a mountain and the Ahavni River flows through the town. The town served as the most important town under Nagorno-Karabakh control due to Lachin corridor that attaches Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh.

Because of the town’s significance for the Nagorno-Karabakh government, they are trying to reconstruct Lachin and the Armenian government has already allocated an estimated budget of 2.2 billion drams to the town. The town recovers pretty slow for it is a heavily land mined area.
