A country’s culture is composed of several cultures from different countries which have connections and interactions in that certain country. Maldivian culture is no exception to that. It is said that the shores of Sri Lanka and South India are the two most important sources of the practices and traditions of the country today.Maldivian Culture

Their language was derived from Indo-Iranian Sanskritic origin that points at a later influence from the north of the subcontinent. There are also however influences from Arabia in the language and culture of Maldives due to the general conversion to Islam in 12th century. Few elements of African origin were also part of the means of living in the island.

Hindi songs are famous in the country and the local Maldivian dances and songs were mostly based in North Indian Dances. Bulbul is the favorite musical instrument in the country. It is a horizontal accordion used to accompany devotional songs just like Maulud and Maadhaha.
