Locally known as Mawmag, the Philippine Tarsier is an endangered specie which is endemic to the country. The tarsier is found in the southeastern part of the country in Bohol, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao.
It is a tiny animal which measures 4 up to 6 inches in height. Its weigh for female would go about 117 grams and the male are often 134 grams in weight. The tarsier has a round head which can be rotated 180 degrees and it also has a special adaptation in the neck to be able to execute this. It cannot move its eyes for it is fixed and these are large and goggling. It is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest eyes of a mammal.
The tarsier has a thick and silky fur that is colored gray to dark brown. It has a thin tail which is bald and it is about twice its body length. It lives in tropical rainforests with dense vegetation and trees. The animal is called as the world’s smallest monkey or smallest primate.
