Welcome to Ganja, the second largest city in Azerbaijan. Its name is derived from the New Persian word ganj which means treasure.

It was founded in the 5ht century AD where it was part of Sassanid empire, Great Selijuk Empire, Atabegs of Azerbaijan, II-Khans, Timurids, Jalayirids, Qara Qoyunlu, Ak Koyunlo and Ganja Khanate. It was only in 1918 when Ganja became the temporary capital of the country. The city is said to have an international airport and it serves as ther home to the Nizami Mausoleum which was rebuilt in the year 1991.

When one wants to know the schools found in the city, there are about four major institutes for post-secondary education in Ganaja. These are the Ganja State University, Azerbaijan State Agricultural Academy, Azerbaijan Technological University and Azerbaijan Teachers Institute. There are also a lot of beautiful spots in the city and some of these are the city hall, parks, mosques and museums.
