Miri is the beautiful and the second largest city in Sarawak and it is located in northern Sarawak, Malaysia on the beautiful island of Borneo.
It is simply the birthplace of Sarawak’s petroleum industry where the first oil well was drilled by Shell in the year 1910. Miri’s major industries are timber, oil palm production, and tourism. Among the tourist spots in the city are the Loagan Bunut National Park, Lambir National Park, and the Niah Caves National Park. You can also see the well-known Gunung Mulu National Park.
There are various cultures and nationalities that inhabit the city. Some of them are the Chinese, Dayak, Malay, Melanau, Indian, Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit, Iban, Bidayuh, Penan, and many other more. Miri has a population of about 300,000 and the city serves as the government administrative center of Miri District. The council of the city is the tenth city council in the country.
