Tet Nguyen Dan is known as the most significant and famous holiday in Vietnem. It serves as the Vietnamese New Year that is based on the Chinese calendar. It literally means Feast of the First Morning.
Tet is celebrated from the first month of the Chinese calendar and many of the Vietnamese prepare for it by cooking special and delectable holiday foods and they also clean their houses. The festival traditionally marks the coming of spring. People in Vietnam usually return to their families during this celebration and some of them return to worship at the family altar or they simply visit the graves of their beloved ancestors.
Every family displays a New Year tree which is known as cay neu that is made up of a bamboo pole five to six meters long. Its top end is often decorated with numerous objects which depend on the locality it also includes good luck charms, origami fish, cactus and many other more.
