A fourth class city in the province of Bulacan, Philippines, Malolos is the capital of Bulacan City. It serves as a major suburb outside of Manila and it has a total population of 175,291.

It became the site of the constitutional convention of 1898 which is known as the Malolos Convention that led to the establishment of the First Philippine Republic. Its major industries are agriculture, fisheries and manufacturing. Malolos is also dais to be one of the centers of education in Central Luzon region. It was the capital of the short-lived republic from the year 1898 to 1899.
The city was captured by the Americans through a bloody battle which led to the escape of Aguinaldo to San Fernando, Pampanga in the Philippine-American War. It also served as the site of the inauguration of President Joseph Estrada on June 30, 1998 in the historic church of Barasoain. It was in the year 1999 when Malolos became a city.
