The Beautiful Huangpu Park

Huangpu Park is the oldest and smallest park in Shainghai. It serves as the site of the high-rising Monument to the People’s Heroes which commemorates those who had helped to free China from foreign occupation.

Huangpu Park

It was established in the year 1886 where it served as a Public Garden. Huangpu was designed by a Scottish gardener and the park includes a resting pavilion and also a tennis court. It was closed to the residents in 1890 and 1928. Just after the World War II, it was renamed as Huangpu Park. The park is confined by Suzhou Creek to the north and Huangpu River to the east.

In the 1990s, Huangpu Park was remodeled and the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Bund Historical Museum was built within the park. The museum shows the history of the Bund in old photos. Huangpu Park really looks different today but its historical name lives on in the names of the nearby places just like the Garden Bridge and the New Bund Garden.
