Abqaiq was built in the 1940s by the ARAMCO which is now called Saudi Aramco. It has a total population of about 1,950 in the year 2005.
The city produces crude products just like oil, natural gas, water, sand, and many other more. These products are processed by the GOSPs or Gas Oil Separation Plants and the sour oil which contains hydrogen sulphide is directed to Abqaiq through a pipeline. The city’s compound is surrounded by a security fence and the Saudi employees maintain some of their extended families just inside the camp.
It is currently a multi-ethnic mosaic of Saudis, other Arab nationalities, Indians, Pakistanis, and several US and UK people who use English as their common medium. Its weather is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit which would vary during winter and summer. Abqaiq also reached freezing temperature every winter but it is not often experienced by the city. There are also dust storms which occur regularly.
