Do you want to see a real action in boat racing? Then, check out and see the Asian way of celebration through the waters.

In commemoration of the patriotic poet Chu Yuan, who drowned on the fifth day of the lunar year in 277 B.C., boat races during the Dragon festival is being practiced by the Chinese and Taiwanese people. In Chinese, it is called Duan Wu Jie. Chu Yuan at that time has a great significance in the establishment of the Chinese culture.

People from that time tried to save the poet from drowning. When they were not able to save him, they threw bamboos stuffed with cooked rice into the water so that these would be eaten by the fish and not the body of their hero. Now, the traditional way of having such meal evolved into eating tzungtzu- rice dumplings with ham or bean and wrapped in bamboo leaves.
