Philippines can be considered as home to numerous tales and superstitions on magical creatures and entities. Even if the country is already westernized, there are still a lot of Filipinos who believe that such entities do exist.

Due to the diverse ethnic groups in the country, it can be noted that there are also different beliefs and myths taking place in the country. However, there are some concepts and beliefs of these tribes which they have in common such as the Heaven or kaluwalhatian, Hell or impiyerno and the human soul or kaluluwa. The Philippine mythology is actually derived from the Philippine folk literature that is regarded as the traditional oral literature of the Filipinos.

Due to the variation of the Philippine folk literature, they have been classified as folk narratives, folk speech and folk songs to avoid any confusion. Among the stories of the ancient mythology of the country are the deities, creation stories, mythical creatures and some beliefs.
