The Land of the Forty Tribes

A mountainous and landlocked country, Kyrgyzstan literally means Land of the Forty Tribes. The country borders Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Kyrgyzstan is blessed with natural resources. They have Tian Shan which is the country’s second largest mountain lake in the whole world after Titicaca. The country’s highest peaks are found in the Kakshaal-Too range which forms the Chinese border. It also has important deposits of metals which include gold and rare earth metals.

The Kyrgyz is the country’s largest ethnic group who are Turkic people. They comprise 69.5% of the nation’s total population and other ethnic groups in Kyrgyzstan are ethnic Russians, Uzbeks, Tatars, Uyghurs, Kazakhs and Ukrainians. Bishkek is the country’s capital and there are about 5,264,000 people living in Kyrgyzstan and majority of them are Muslims with about 76.1 percent of the total population. To all who have not been to the country, a day or week would never be enough to see the wonders that this good place has to offer!
