The life of its people was influenced by the practice of ancestor worship and also the native animism. Majority of the Vietnamese practice ancestor worship and they have an ancestor altar in their homes or business which serves as a testament to the emphasis of Vietnamese culture in the places of filial duty. Education also played a great role in the country’s culture. During the old times the scholars were put at the top of society.

Men and women Vietnamese were expected to be married at young ages. The marriages were arranged by the parents and also the extended family and the children do not have a chance to say no. But in the modern time, people are allowed to choose their own partners based on love.
