Rich in culture and celebrations, Nepal has definitely shown the world how they do well in their culture as well as with their lives.

One way of showing this richness in culture is their celebration of Janai Purnima or also known as the Sacred Thread Festival. This day is celebrated at Kumbeshwor in Lalitpur through a big mela (fair). People come to worship Lord Mahadev and to tie knots around their wrists.

Janai Purnima

The Hindu men perform their annual change of Janai- a yellow cotton string worn across the chest or is tied around the wrist on the hand. The triple cord symbolizes body, mind, and speech. And when these knots are tied, the one who is wearing it is considered to gain complete control over each. The thread is given only to males in a lengthy and impressive religious ceremony called “Bratabandhan.” The cord also instigates the males to manhood and orders them to faithfully follow the religion.
