Tom yum

Thai’s kitchen creativity and diverse influences had created tom yum, a famous soup in the country. It has hot and sour flavors and is often added with fragrant herbs. The basic broth mixed with tom yum is consists of stock and fresh ingredients like emon grass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, shallots, lime juice, fish sauce, tamarind and crushed chili peppers.

Thai people often make tom yum with prawns, chicken, fish, mixed seafood and mushrooms. Tom yum is sometimes added with Thai chili jam which simply gives the soup with a bright orange color and it also makes the soup hotter.

There are commercial tom yum pastes which are sold in markets. These are done by crushing the herb ingredients and stir-frying it in oil. The seasoning and preservatives are included in the package. It is sold worldwide and it has never failed to please those who love hot and sour food.
