It was in the 20th century when the history of the Chinese animation started in China. It was also the time when a lot of people in the country were fascinated with the idea of animation. Wan Laiming was the first to produce an animation cartoon advertisement for the Shuzhendong Chinese Typewriter in the year 1922.

The Wan brothers had eventually launched the first animation with sound which was entitled The Camel’s Dance and four years after, America’s Disney’s Snow White was introduced in Shanghai and had a great influence to the country’s animation. It was then in the year 1941 when the first animated feature film of the country, Princess Iron Fan, came out. The animations were then considered technological marvels until the cultural revolution kicked into full gear in the year 1967.

Japanese and American animations had pushed the traditional Chinese animations out of the market. However, the internet opened up the country’s animation industry and software like Adobe Flash and venues like Youtube and clones allowed independent animators to make a creative work by themselves.
