Jordan is not only known for being a religious city but it is also famous because of its beautiful and stunning landmarks. Among these splendid spots is the Al Khazneh. It is known to be one of the most elaborate structures in Petra, a city in Jordan.
The Al Khazneh was carved out of a fine sandstone rock face and it possesses a Roman-influenced architecture. The building was originally made as a royal tomb between 100 BC and 200 AD. “Treasury” serves as its Arabic name and it is derived from a legend which bandits and pirates hid their loot in a stone urn up high on the second level. When looked closely, there is damage from bullets on the urn.
The local people attribute this to Bedouins- people who have shot at the urn in the hopes of opening it and getting out the “treasure” in it. Hollywood films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade both shoot some of their scenes in the place.
