Known as a city and capital of Jeollabuk-do Province, South Korea, Jeomju is located about two and a half hors south of Seoul and it serves as an important tourist center. It is well known for its Korean food, historic buildings, and sports activities as well as with its innovative festivals.
It is found in the fertile Honam plain which is known for strawberries and exceptional produce. Jeonju is also considered as the spiritual capital of the Joseon Dynasty due to the Yi royal family which originated there. It was then occupied by the Donghak peasants’ rebellion in the year 1894. The city was given the metropolitan status in the year 1935 and was said to be founded in 1949.
There are beautiful royal museums, temples, castle fortress found on a hillside and also a famous paper museum which are found in Jeonju. The city is currently planning to have an annual “Fun Festival” and also a “Royal City Sports Festival” which is a weekend of five different races.
