Serves as the regional center and main economic hub of the Western Visayas region, Iloilo City is one of the major agricultural centers of the Philippines.

In the Spanish and American colonial periods, Iloilo began exporting sugar, copra, bananas, mangoes and other natural resources. The city is also the center of finance in the region because of its numerous banks and financial institutions which invested in the city. People in Iloilo speak Hiligaynon and English is used as the language of business and education.

One can stroll around the city and can visit numerous landmarks in it. There is the Molo Church which is a Gothic renaissance church of coral rock, Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral, Jaro Belfry, Calle Real which shows the unique architecture of the downtown area, Museo Iloilo, Distrito Jaro, La Villa de Arevalo- the flower and firecracker district of the city and the Muelle Loney which is the river port of Iloilo City.
