Situated at the southwest end of the lake Uvs Nuur and on the slopes of the Kharkhiraa mountains, Ulaangom is the capital of Uvs Province in the beautiful country of Mongolia

It was founded in the year 1686 and historical evidence shows that there were grain plantations in operation during the late 1600s in the city. Ulaangom is linked to the Russian boundary by highway and it imports its electricity from the Russian Federation. It is said that there are no direct flights to any other cities in Mongolia from the city and there is only one airport in Ulaangom that has direct flights from and to Ulaanbaatar through Aero Mongolia.
It is among the coldest places in the country which has temperatures that can reach -45˚C during winter and +40˚C or more every summer. Ulaangom has total population of 26,319 and it is subdivided into two suburban areas which are named Chandmani and Uliasny Khev.
