Buddha JayantiNepal has always preserved their culture. Most of its people are still celebrating life and faith that were practiced a long time ago.

Buddha Jayanti is one of these festivities. It is celebrated on the full moon of Taurus. This corresponds with the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. The Buddha showed that the people suffer because of desires and it is also the root cause of misery. Thus, it is emphasized in this day the eight precepts which a person should follow. These precepts are the right views, intent, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and meditation.

During this day prayers are sung and people offer worship in all Buddhist shrines. The next day a giant stature of the Lord Buddha is displayed to be viewed by its followers and other shrines are visited. There are also colorful flags displayed above the Buddhist households. Doing so means happiness and fortune to the aged and the sick.
