Isabela is a city situated on the northern shore of Basilan. It was named in honor of Queen Isabella II of Spain and it has a total population of 73,032.
It was in the year 2001 when the inhabitants of Basilan Province decided to join the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in a plebiscite but then the people in Isabela did not want to join with the other province that is why the city remained part with its region. The city is subdivided into 45 barangays and it is a fifth class city. Isabela city serves as the capital of Basilan, Philippines.
Among the beautiful sites in Isabela is the St. Elizabeth of Portugal Cathedral which is the seat of the Isabela prelature, Provincial Capitol, Royal Issra Pension House which is said to be the cleanest and safest place to stay. There is also the Sunrise Village Chapel, Kaumpurnah Mosque and the splendid Malamaui Beach Resort.
